Phone Banking and Canvassing in T or C this Saturday

Meet Rick Lass at Democratic Party Headquarters at 405 Main St. T or C at noon Saturday Sept. 17 for an afternoon of voter outreach. Never knocked on doors or called voters before? Take the plunge. Rick is an experienced trainer and can have you prepared and confident for your first venture. It’s normal to be a little scared the first time you do this, but it gets easier, and the possibility of Republicans winning because we don’t get out the vote is a whole lot scarier.

People are friendly here. You may even have fun canvassing and calling!

Tara Jaramillo Meet and Greet. Volunteer Help Wanted. Donations welcome, too.

Volunteers needed in party headquarters, especially on Saturdays. Talk to voters and hand out campaign signs and information. Contact Suzanne at 630-334-9329 if you can help. We try to split the hours between 2 shifts: 11-1:30 or 1:30-4.

Volunteers needed to make phone calls and knock on doors to get out the vote. Contact Rick Lass at 505-920-0540 if you can help. Rick will give you instructions and provide phone banking or door knocking lists. You can make calls from home and on your schedule. We have only a short time left to reach potential voters. Turnout will make the difference in this election. If you haven’t volunteered yet in this election cycle, now is the time.

Based on few responses received from members, we are not planning to have a booth at the county fair this year. We will pursue setting up a booth at Elephant Days October 14-16 (we may do 2 days instead of 3 depending on volunteers).

We are spending down a major portion of our treasury to make donations to several candidates who are visiting with our members and to provide food for our September 21 event with Gabe Vasquez, Laura Montoya, Tara Jaramillo and Michael Lanford. If you haven’t made a donation to our party in a while, September would be a good time to do so, at our September 21 event or online though the Act Blue donation link on the home page of this site.

A meet and greet with Tara Jaramillo, candidate for NM House District 38, will be held on Sunday Sept. 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Point Blanc Winery, 820 N. Cedar St. T or C. Hosted by David Senn and Sandy Whitehead. Tara is a businesswoman, entrepreneur, and longtime advocate for families.

Phone banking opportunities!

Voters who participate in primaries are more likely to become engaged and vote in the general election. Sign up for phone banking with the Democratic Party of New Mexico this weekend and next weekend for two Early Voting Weekends of Action. In these calls, you will be helping our low turnout Democrats make plans to vote early, absentee, or on election day.

There will also be phone banking every single day from June 1st – 7th to help these voters make a plan to vote on election day!

To receive the sign-up links, email, and let us know which you want to sign up for. Virtual Early Vote Weekend of Action Phone Banks, 5/21 – 5/22 and 5/28 – 5/29 or Get Out The Vote Phone Bank, 6/1 – 6/7.

You can choose to do as few or as many days as you want. Thank you!

Karen Whitlock

New Mexico House, District 38

Good news in Karen Whitlock’s race. We just did our second poll and we have cut the lead in half. Neither candidate is above 50%! Please make every effort to help us put Karen over the top! Won’t it be great to wake up Nov 4 with a new Representative!

Karen’s team is still calling previously identified supporters to remind them about early and absentee voting. The link for calling is 15C984D-473102.  If you haven’t made calls yet or need a refresher, please contact Rick at 505-920-0540 or

If you are interested in dropping lit on doors, also please call Rick, and of course don’t neglect your Personal Influence Network of friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors who may not have voted yet.

Thanks for all you are doing to make NM blue.

Xochitl Torres Small

U.S. House of Representatives, NMCD2

 Hey Team,

We only have two weeks left, and we need to put in as much time as possible to get Xochi re-elected. RESPOND TO with the times which you will join.

Here are the times for the final four days. On Saturday the 31st, Sunday the 1st, and Monday the 2nd, we have times from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

On election day, we will have times from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Additionally, we will have the regularly scheduled 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday-Thursday, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Friday, and from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM at two-hour intervals on Saturday and Sunday before that.

When you sign up to call this week, you can choose a list exclusively comprised of Sierra County voters. You’ll find a link to that list, called Sierra Make a Plan, at the bottom of this document.

Respond to so that I can sign you up. Please sign up for as many times on as many of those days as you can because the final four days are crucial in getting Xochitl re-elected. Remember, democracy is not a spectator sport. We all must play our part.

  • For those who are on the agenda: when it is your time to speak, you will be unmuted, and then you will also unmute yourself to be heard.
  • When you enter the meeting on the top of the screen you will see a pull down of “view all” or “view who is speaking,” When you select view all you will see everyone who is participating….but when we have a speaker you can select view speaker to have that person be prominent.

Phone Banking and Bumper Stickers

Bumper Stickers

The bumper stickers—matching the Enough?/Vote Blue signs you’ve seen popping up around Sierra County—are here and free to anyone who wants one.

Pick yours up during business hours next week, Aug. 10-14, at Sierra County Democratic Party headquarters in the Sea Properties building at 108 Main Street in T or C.

We’ve printed 250 stickers, but they’ll go fast, so don’t delay in dropping by. The goal of this joint initiative of SCDP and Sierra County Indivisible is to make this message omnipresent, plastered on seemingly every vehicle that passes by. Call it Volley 2 in the local signage wars.

So, take a few to distribute to friends you’re sure will put them on their cars. If you can leave a buck or two or three to help defray the printing costs, that would be great.

Phone Banking

Emily Hartshorn is the Field Organizer with the Democratic Party of New Mexico in the Second Congressional District who is working to organize Sierra County.

Here’s some information she sent to the Sierra County Democrats:

To phone bank with Team Xoch click here.

We have virtual phone banks almost every day of the week! Neighbors calling neighbors has been proven to be incredibly influential in elections, so we get together Monday through Thursday to virtually call other voters and tell them why we love Xoch. On Monday through Thursday, we have our phone bank training at 5PM, and on Sundays we have our training at 1PM. Head over to this link to sign up ASAP!

If you have already been to a phone bank training, just head over to this google doc to make calls anytime between 9AM and 9PM. Just find your county and organizer (me!) and make calls with that link.

If you have already attended a phone bank and loved it (how could you not love it?) and want to host a phone bank in your community, please let me know as soon as possible. The election is quickly approaching and we need your help reaching community members who might not otherwise know about all that Xoch has accomplished for Southern New Mexico. Community leaders are integral to getting Xoch reelected and we would love to set you up with all the necessary tools to create impactful change throughout our state.

Finally, please join our Facebook Group March Forward NM-02. There will be more to come soon on how we plan to use this as our Virtual Office. Please feel free to invite other volunteers to this group! We want this to be a productive and positive space, so please use your judgement when adding folks.
